I adore my family, and one of my love languages is serving. As a mom, putting others first seems almost innate. Our selflessness is our superpower. It’s a beautiful thing, but just like anything else, overdoing it can become unhealthy. When we start neglecting ourselves, it can cause our mental health to suffer.
Below I have listed a few ways I learned to practice self-care — some things I’ve put into practice to keep me sane.
I also move my body, walk, or find other ways to increase movement. Remember, “If you don’t use it, you’ll lose it.”
At the end of the day, the key is to remember who you are. What is important to you? What do you enjoy? What motivates you? Get rid of the mom's guilt and give yourself more credit for doing the best you can. Remember, “If mama ain’t happy, no one’s happy!”
Self-Care is one of the most important things you can do for yourself and your family.
Working from home brings priorities into focus. I am a caregiver first and everything else second.

Even if it has been a long time, it’s important for caregivers to start taking care of themselves. Catching up on my healthcare and doing things just for me has made me happier and healthier.

Who was it that said “Nothing is constant except change?” I wish that person could tell those of us who don’t love change, even good change, how to manage it.
