Over the past few years, our school district has held a prom for the students receiving special education services. I never put much thought into how I would feel about Jac going. I never thought he would get to this point.
This special event is a national event. It will be held at various safe locations all on the same night for teens with disabilities. "Buddies" will help them interact and enjoy the festivities. There are even supposed to be limousine rides.
The best part is the parents can attend. We will go to a respite room to watch the event live as it is happening. I say this because I know my son will have a much better time without mom and dad watching.
I am so excited about this event! It's one of those events I truly never thought we would get to see Jac do. Our oldest son was quite the official prom-goer. He was asked to prom by girls even as a freshman. But never in a million years would I have dreamed that Jackson would have the chance to go to one.
The song by Lee Ann Womack, "I Hope You Dance," plays through my mind, as I hope Jac dances the night away. I hope he laughs and smiles while watching other teens like him, get treated like kings and queens for a night. I hope he makes memories that he will remember for a long time.
Kids grow up way too fast. Now go break out your best dance move, Jac!
Teens are a step away from adulthood. Here are ways to help your teen as they become more independent.
Working from home brings priorities into focus. I am a caregiver first and everything else second.

Even if it has been a long time, it’s important for caregivers to start taking care of themselves. Catching up on my healthcare and doing things just for me has made me happier and healthier.

Who was it that said “Nothing is constant except change?” I wish that person could tell those of us who don’t love change, even good change, how to manage it.
