Youth and teens benefit from workshops on the fundamentals of acting, improvisation, and musical theatre. They learn to work as a team, solve problems together, and develop active listening skills. They do warm ups at the beginning of the class and take time for sensory breaks throughout.
In this 10 week class they use acting and peer modeling to address social skills for children with Autism. The classes address initial social skills, skills for expressing feelings, and social relationship skills. During the class theater vocabulary and concepts are introduced and they rehearse a play. The play is staged for family and friends at the end of the course (March 7th).
Skills learned: teamwork, characterization, emotions, projection, diction, stage setting, stage directions, memorization techniques, props, blocking, dress rehearsal.
