Greenleaf Neurodiversity Community Center (Greenleaf NCC) was launched by Easterseals Central Texas in 2019 in response to a growing need for services and supports for youth and adults with autism and related neurodivergent conditions as they transition out of school and into adulthood. Greenleaf NCC currently provides the following opportunities: 1. In-District Charter School: In 2021, Greenleaf NCC opened a first-of-its-kind transition school in partnership with Austin Independent School District, giving students aged 18-22 individualized support in reaching their goals for independence, post-secondary education, and workplace readiness. Activities include social skills classes led by a licensed Speech Language Pathologist, independent living courses using the Learn4Independence® curriculum developed by Southwest Autism Research and Resource Center, ongoing opportunities to develop skills for self-expression and wellness (i.e., theater, art, music, mindfulness, cooking, etc.), and short-term work assignments at local partner organizations. 2. Social Creativity Clubs: Community members from all over Central Texas and beyond participate year-round in weekly or bi-weekly recreational programs utilizing a multi-disciplinary creative arts approach to foster self-expression, social and relationship skills, independent-living skills, and a sense of community belonging. These clubs cover a broad range of interests, from the arts to cooking to wellness to role-playing games. 3. Vocational Training: Greenleaf NCC (DBA Easterseals Central TX) is also an authorized service provider for Texas Workforce Solutions. Our Adulting 101 and Next Steps programs provide in-depth career counseling, workforce readiness training, and classes in money management, self-advocacy, and social skills to prepare individuals for long-term employment.
