The educational activities offered to assist school-aged children through a wide range of instructional support classes and youth tutoring programs. In addition, they introduce these children to advanced educational opportunities, such as universities, community colleges and trade schools, to further knowledge and enhance learning. Educational activities also target adult residents with classes in English as a Second Language (ESL), creative writing, GED preparation, computer literacy, job readiness and much more. The family skills development progams are designed to teach every member of a family the basic skills necessary to become self-sufficient and contribute to their community. Some of these activities include household budgeting and financial literacy, drop-out and truancy prevention, home energy conservation, parenting classes, family movie and game nights, Mommy-and-Me programs, social responsibility programs and domestic abuse awareness. The health and nutrition activities encompass a variety of programs that promote health and wellness in residents of all ages. The goal is to advocate health education, offer nutritional guidance and encourage residents to engage in a more active lifestyle. These activities include summer lunch programs, teen health and wellness education, drug and alcohol abuse prevention and awareness, exercise programs, health fairs, cooking classes, immunizations and more. Neighborhood pride and leadership are fostered through programs that encourage residents to be proactive members of their community. Inter-Faith believes this is crucial to promoting self-sufficiency and developing safe, close-knit neighborhoods. Mentor programs, annual National Night Out events, energy conservation information, Crime Watch meetings, “stranger danger” classes for school-aged children, gang awareness and prevention classes, guest speakers and gardening classes are just some of the activities offered. Fun and freedom activities include a variety of programs that seek to enrich the quality of life for residents while building a stronger community. We offer programs geared toward all ages, from school-aged children to senior citizens, with interests ranging from traditional sports to arts, crafts, drama/theater, music, monthly birthday socials, guest speakers, outdoor activities, family events and seasonal functions. These activities create a sense of well-being by providing residents with a fun and creative outlet for social interactions and hobby development. Long-term residents of our properties have the opportunity to participate in Inter-Faith’s Cash Investment Initiative. This program provides dollar-for-dollar matching of funds to qualified residents—up to 4 percent of the monthly rent with a maximum of $2,000—toward home ownership savings, continued education or entrepreneurial opportunities. Eligibility begins after 12 months of residency.
