Many families in El Paso qualify for Medicaid. Many providers in El Paso accept it. Problems arise when families do not qualify for Medicaid. Some providers in El Paso do not accept private insurance or choose not to work with clients who have it. The reason we hear most often is, “it is too difficult to collect from them.” We also hear, “the reimbursement rates are too low.”
This puts a lot of pressure on the families who are only a few dollars above the limit to qualify for Medicaid. They are certainly not rich, and the costs of the therapies, medications, doctor’s visits, etc. are great.
Some families find that their income puts them over the limit for Children’s Medicaid. Yet they cannot afford the medications or services their children need. Some families may qualify for CHIP (Children’s Health Insurance Program) with its higher income limits.
Some families still don’t qualify because their income is over the limits. For them, Medicaid Buy-In for Children may be the answer. Medicaid Buy-In for Children can help pay medical bills for children with disabilities. The program helps families who need health insurance, but make too much money to get Medicaid.
Families who do not have the ability to pay for Medicaid Buy-In for Children may be able to get medical coverage and/or case management services through the Children with Special Health Care Needs (CSHCN) Services Program. There is a wait list for medical coverage. If you are not eligible for any other program, we suggest you get on the wait list. Case management services can often help families who don’t have Medicaid or CHIP. It can help them find needed medical equipment, therapies and other basic needed services or items.
Check the Find Services, Groups & Events page on this website for other options to help cover the cost of medications or other services.
