When school is out, many parents and caregivers find it hard to find fun summer activities for their kids. There are various faith-based organizations offering summer programs throughout June and sometimes July but usually just for a few hours a day. What about the rest of the day or when a program does not interest your child? Then what?
Corpus Christi Parks and Recreation offers various types of activities throughout the city during the summer. Listed below are just a few.
There are quite a few camps that offer fun activities for kids. They are designed to teach sportsmanship and build coordination. Camp activities help to foster friendships and provide kids with new and exciting experiences.
Corpus Christi Parks and Recreation facilities offer a number of classes for youth at affordable rates. Those offered include martial arts and fitness and dance, just to name a couple.
Every summer during mid-June to early August, the Corpus Christi Parks and Recreation department offers Summer Programs and Recreation for Kids (SPARK). SPARK is for kids ages 6-16. This program offers recreational activities such as arts and crafts and board games. Indoor and outdoor activities and guest speakers are offered at all five recreation centers and the Ben Garza Gym. Kids who participate are given a free lunch and snack.
During mid-June to early August each summer, Corpus Christi Parks and Recreation also sponsors the “Lunch’s On Us” summer food service program. They provide lunch and afternoon snacks FREE of charge for all youth ages 1-18. Call the summer Food Hotline at 361-826-3467 for more information.
