HCB aims to elevate the social, economic, and cultural levels of persons in our community by providing a forum for their views and experiences, by broadening vocational and educational opportunities, and by encouraging and assisting the visually impaired to develop their abilities and potential to assume a responsible place in our community. Some of our events or activities include an ongoing mentoring program for students, member support, exchange of ideas, fund raising, and distribution of annual scholarships to qualified students to assist them in their college careers
The Houston Council of the Blind usually holds meetings on the first Sunday of each month from 2:00 - 4:00 P.M. at The Lighthouse of Houston, 3602 West Dallas, Houston, Texas 77019. Exceptions are Holidays, July and December.
They offer offer two scholarships: Houston Council of the Blind Scholarship and The Robert L. Bartlett Scholarship ($500.00 scholarship available for students majoring in Computer Science, Information Technology and related fields)
