Camp Brave Heart is a recreational summer camp for children ages 6-17 who have experienced the loss of a love one due to death. Campers are supported in their exploration of emotional, behavioral and physical adjustments to their loss.
Children who are grieving can experience a sense of isolation as they struggle with deep and complicated feelings. Often, these children know no one else who has suffered a similar loss. Camp Brave Heart, staffed by counselors experienced in child and adolescent grief support, helps campers ages 6 to 17 discover that they are not alone. Swimming, hiking, campfires, archery, sing-a-longs, crafts and a low-level ropes course are just a few of the activities that campers enjoy. Over the course of four days packed with recreational and therapeutic activities, campers hear each other’s stories, explore their grief in a safe and understanding environment, and learn ways to help them cope with their loss.
Hospice Austin offers additional bereavement support services for children, teens and adults. If you would like further information about our resources or other grief resources in the community, please call 512-342-4700.
