The Tallowood Treasures program provides a buddy for people able to attend a typical Sunday School class but need a little help to do so. A trained staff member is on duty to help with medical or personal care needs. Before attending for the first time, fill out an informational questionnaire so that the best care is provided. Contact Mary Lynn Smith, Director of Special Needs Ministry, firstname.lastname@example.org or 713-468-8241, ext. 8222, for more information, dates, and times.
Each summer a Vacation Bible School is offered for children with disabilites. Vacation Bible School for ages 4 to 23 takes place in June.
Super Place Camp is a weeklong day camp with a Christian theme held each August at a host church in the West Houston area. Churches such as Tallowood Baptist, Chapelwood Methodist, Memorial Drive Methodist, and Memorial Drive Presbyterian pool their resources and staff to host this week of Bible study and activities customized for children and young adults with disabilities. Volunteers from these churches and the local community serve as Buddies for each camper, providing meaningful friendships which often last well beyond this amazing week.
They also have regular Parent Night Out events during the school year, offering a fun evening for those with disabilities while providing three hours of respite time for parents.
For more information contact the Special Needs Ministry at 713-468-8241, ext. 8222.
