The Arc of Harris County serves our constituents and the Houston community by focusing on providing community outreach, education, and awareness on behalf of the disability community to families, schools, businesses, adult services organizations, and other community organizations, ass well as to promote wellness, enriching the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. By participating in national, state, and local legislative and systems advocacy, it ensures that children with disabilities have access to a free, appropriate education in the least restrictive environment; and that adults with disabilities have access to community-based, integrated employment and supports. Arc also supports the structure and cohesion of families who have members with intellectual and developmental disabilities and provides life-enhancing integrated activities and experiences for those with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Arc is a member-based organization, and an affiliate with The Arc of Texas and The Arc of United States.
Services of The Arc of Harris County include social, recreational, respite programs, training for professionals, families, the community, educational advocacy, legislative, system advocacy, information, referral, public awarness, and support groups.
