Do you have a child or family member who is blind or visually impaired? Where do you go when you need help finding resources? Do you know about summer programs or camp opportunities that provide the support your child needs?
All Blind Children of Texas (ABCTX) offers Resources for Teachers Parents & Kids that includes supports such as online community forums and message boards. Their resource page provides help finding resources and family support. The site also offers info about recreational activities and events for children online. ABCTX resources are available for teachers, parents, and kids. Activities vary from after-school programs to summer and day camps. ABCTX helps create events that provide students who are blind with social and recreational activities. Students can have fun bowling, painting, and networking with others while gaining new skills and confidence.
Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired (TSBVI) provides educational services for students who are blind or visually impaired. TSBVI is a residential setting that provides short- and long-term classes. Students at TSBVI can also take part in drama activities, community outings, writing classes, Dancing Drum Performances, cooking classes, and more.
The American Foundation for the Blind offers family education. Their e-Learning Center offers easy access to webinars and conferences. Many of the events are free. Parents can find support on community message boards and newsletters through the website as well.
Family Connect offers online support for families. The website offers ways to help you get connected with other families through on-line forums, blogs, helpful articles, and a search tool to help you find services and groups in Texas. Help for parents is available in both English and Spanish.
